Synopsis for Mum's The Word, What is my Idea and what is my Message

"Mums The Word"

Synopsis:

The three films center around a young pregnant girl who’s caught up with whether or not she should keep her baby.

The idea behind "Mums The Word" was partially conceived when I wanted to make a short film with abstract visuals that portray life, birth and death, displaying t in a provocative manner.

In researching I found a news article that depicted a Pakistani woman and her newly wed husband who were killed by her family for marrying the man she loved.

And in another story about an Iranian child bride who killed her husband and sentenced to death.

These incidences made me more aware of the grief and unease that women go through in totalitarian societies in certain countries the world. This added more depth to the subject matter of my idea and how we take life for granted and how we shouldn't deny a woman her rights.

FILM 1: The first film shows her standing outside of a clinic, she takes a deep breath, walks in, she later walks out of the clinic having gone through the operation.

She feels unsure if she made the right choice, nonetheless it was her choice.

FILM 2: The second film shows the girl is standing outside of the clinic but has seconds thoughts and walks away, later she se her in a living room cradling a baby wrapped in a blanket held in her arms showing that she decided in the end to keep her baby and raise it herself.

She feels unsure if she made the right choice, nonetheless it was her choice.

FILM 3: The Third film shows the girl standing outside of an Orphanage/Foster Home/Hospital, she takes a deep breath, walks in, later the baby is seen being looked after by foster parents, the mother watches from afar.

She feels unsure if she made the right choice, nonetheless it was her choice.

My Message I want to portray in the three films is the different options a woman could take if they accidentally become pregnant. The choice may be frowned upon and controversial there’s no right wrong answer, only the choice of the mother to make.
